I am:
- A teacher, facilitator, guide.
- A director, organizer, coordinator.
- A student, artist, builder.
- A traveler, explorer, discoverer.
- A mentor, advisor, mother.
I give students:
- The opportunity to shine, to explore new paths and directions, and to delve below the surface of their learning and understanding.
I am a success when my students:
- Find their place in their community, engaging with their peers, listening thoughtfully and standing up independently for what they believe in and are passionate about.
- Think “outside the box”, analyze with the critical eye of an artist, and find meaning in the world around them.
- Discover their voice and sing out with pride for who they are and what they have learned.
I teach. I love. I live.
Arts with Technology Rationale:
Arts education is becoming increasingly enhanced by technology. No longer are technology innovations found only in Science and Math classes; more and more new resources are available for Fine Arts classrooms as well. Specifically in Theatre, technology has expanded the possibilities within the classroom and on the performance stage. Whether using projection screens to create colorful, changing backdrops or sound systems and mixing equipment that bring the audience directly into the mood of a production or online resources that can assist with everything from ticket sales to publicity through social media, new technologies have changed the landscape of theatre productions. In the drama classroom, teachers can now access online video footage to bring far away Broadway productions directly into the classroom or share video and audio clips online with student's families or enhance and change voices and audio files to create sound effects using computer technology. Even blogs such as this give students the opportunity to express their learning in a conversational forum as well as providing publicity and information sharing beyond the school setting. There is still a need for studying and learning from traditional performance styles to learn the basics and understand where we've come from in theatre history. However, we cannot ignore the future either, and technology is rapidly altering Theatre productions and the drama classroom and bringing them into whole new dimensions that will forever change how we teach and perform theatre.
